Ponds can become murky and smell foul if they are not maintained. Some ponds will have plants and other organisms that produce oxygen for them naturally. That oxygen will help reduce odors and increase the clarity of the water. However, not all ponds will naturally get enough oxygen. Anaerobic bacteria can produce foul smelling odors if oxygen is not present. Aerating the pond with a bubble diffuser will introduce oxygen into the pond. The introduction of oxygen will reduce the odor causing bacteria within the pond.

Algae blooms are another nuisance for pond owners. Rapid algae growth (algae blooms) can be caused by the warming of the pond water and an abundance of nutrients in the water. Limiting the nutrients in the water can limit algae growth and prevent unsightly algae blooms. Aerating the pond can promote the proliferation of aerobic bacteria that will consume organic material in the water. Once the aerobic bacteria consume the organic matter, there will be far less nutrients available for the algae. Thus, the growth of the algae will be limited.

Additionally, stagnant pond water can develop distinct layers. Sometimes the lower layer of the pond will have dangerously low amounts of oxygen. Changes in the weather and rainfall can cause that lower layer to mix throughout the pond. However, mixing water with a small amount of oxygen throughout the pond will decrease the oxygen available for the fish. In some cases, the oxygen within the water will become too diluted and the fish will die. Using a bubble diffuser will introduce oxygen into the lowest layer in the pond and mix up the pond continuously. Constant mixing and adding oxygen into the pond will help prevent layers from forming in the pond.

WSS’s aeration kits will provide you with the tools you need to aerate your pond. The first item that will be included in these kits will be an air compressor. The role of the compressor will be to take ambient air and push in to the pond.

The next component in the kit will be the weighted air hose. The hose connects to the air compressor and directs the stream of air to the pond. It is important to note that the weighted hose will sink even when it is full of air. Other hoses will float on the pond and become an eyesore.

Finally, the kit will include a diffuser. The weighted hose directs the stream of air from the air compressor to the diffuser. As the air is pushed through the diffuser, the air will be forced to form into many small bubbles. Then the bubbles will then be released into the pond. The bubbles will make the pond circulate and oxygenate the water.

WSS’s kits are available in a variety of hose lengths and with a variety of air compressors. Our selection of air compressors ranges from small linear diaphragm aerators to robust rotary vane air compressors. The weighted hose is available in 50 ft, 100 ft, 150 ft, 200 ft sections.
