View full detailsAll septic air pumps, commonly called aerators, will have parts that wear down over time. Fortunately, spare parts and rebuild kits are readily available for the largest brands. Replacing a worn component is often far more economical than replacing the entire air pump.
The elastic diaphragms on linear diaphragm aerators are susceptible to wear and tear. These rubber disks are simple to replace and are included in every rebuild kit for diaphragm aerators. Some models use a safety screw to shut down the aerator if it is broken. Those screws are intended to break at the same time as the diaphragms. Models that use a safety screw will have a safety screw included with their rebuild kit.
The vanes within a rotary vane air pump will wear down over time. Replacing the carbon vanes is a simple process, and it can be completed in only a few minutes. Rotary vane air pumps are sensitive to foreign particles interfering with the vanes. It is important that the owner regularly inspects the filters.
