Overview
The 4403-RCW is a 2-zone indexing valve. That means the valve will only switch between two of its outlets. Each outlet can be connected to its own group of sprinklers. The groups of sprinklers will be called zones. Only one zone will receive water at a time. When zone 1 receives water, zone 2 will not get water.
This device is simple to install, because the zone switching mechanism is purely mechanical. The valve does not need an electrical signal to switch between zones. So how does the device know when to switch between zones? Each time the flow of water to the valve is stopped, the valve will switch to the next position. This also allows the valve to be placed off of the discharge side of a pump. The 4402-RCW will switch to the next position each time the pump is deactivated. When the pump is turned back on, the next zone in the series will receive water.
It may be confusing to see 4 outlets on a 3-zone valve. Two of the outlets will be used for the two zones, and the other two outlets will be unused. The user manual will show which outlets will be used and which outlets will not be used. Furthermore, the unused outlets should be plugged, and the user manual will explain how to properly plug the unused outlets.
