Septic Air Diffusers & Septic Aerator Diffusers

Since septic pumps are constantly moving oxygen and water, the buildup of particles on the pump is a natural and common occurrence. After a few years of operation, you might have to consider replacing the all-important filters that your septic pump uses to function efficiently. One of the most important filters is the diffuser, which is an essential part of the aeration process.

Aeration

Aeration is the most crucial process in treating the waste that builds up in your septic tank. It is also used to regulate fish tanks and small bodies of water like ponds and lakes. These micro environments need a steady supply of oxygen in order for certain helpful bacteria to thrive. Healthy bacteria will process waste and make most of the water clearer and cleaner.

Diffusers

These are tubes or plates typically constructed with fine mesh to allow for water and oxygen to pass through. The holes are small to ensure that the bacteria can utilize and live off of the tiny bubbles. Over time, the mesh will become darker and clogged with tiny particles. You should consider replacing your diffuser about every three years to prevent a build up and damage to your septic pump.

Types Of Diffusers

Just as there are different applications for aerator pumps, there are a couple types of diffusers to choose from. Coarse bubble diffusers generate slightly larger bubbles that help facilitate the process of bacterial growth. This is because the larger bubbles have a higher oxygen rate, allowing for more bacteria to thrive. Much more common are fine bubble diffusers, which have a higher oxygen efficiency and even spread. This increases control and saves energy for larger operations. These benefits come at the cost of an increased clogging rate since the diffuser holes are much smaller.
