View full detailsMost aerators look fairly similar, because they have outlet connected to a hose leading to the tank. Shaft aerators have a far different approach to aerating septic systems. Septic systems that use this type of aerator have a port in the top to lower the unit into the tank. The shaft is lowered down into the tank, and the legs of the unit hold the motor above the water. Once the shaft is in the water, the motor will spin the shaft very quickly. The shape of the end of the shaft draws air down the hollow shaft and into the waste water.
The size of the access port can very between septic systems. Fortunately, the legs of shaft aerators are available in multiple sizes to span different sized openings.
